  7. I live 20 minutes from where they are shooting. The town is called Wyoming and is a cute little town with great Victorian style homes. Another Christmas movie was filmed in this little town in the Late 80's early 90's that starred Olivia Newton John . People are scampering to get a view of both stars and they have incorporated some of the kids at the school they are shooting at.

  8. This was cute! Brennan and Lacey were together again (yay!) so that's what made it great for me!

  9. Okay, here I go...Brennan and Lacey are adorable together and have such good chemistry...BUT...what was up with Mariah Carey not being in any scenes with others? It was so distracting to see only close ups of her face and with no one else in the shot. Was anyone else put off by that? It seems she filmed her scenes alone. Weird!
I loved the movie, though, but MC's mean character could have been played by another actress and it would have been fine.

  10. Susan, I couldn't agree with you more on the close-ups of Mariah. Her entire face filled the screen. I just find her tedious & she can not act...that's probably why she was hardly in the movie. I love Lacey Chabert but this was, in my opinion, the worst Hallmark movie of the season. And two close-ups of Folger's Coffee??!?! Are they going to start talking about how delicious Folger's coffee is in future films? It's distracting & ridiculous!

    1. Product placement pays for the movie. Unless you'd rather no movies.

    2. As good as this movie was, there were three things that I found disappointing:

First off, I agree with Anonymous. I felt that Mariah’s acting abilities were very stiff and unnatural. Mariah is a talented singer and has potential to be a good director. But she should just stick to singing and possibly directing. I personally think that Mariah Carey’s character should have been portrayed by a different actress (maybe Pascale Hutton from “When Calls the Heart”).

For her first time directing anything, I thought Mariah did a good job with directing this movie. However, I felt that the ending was a bit abrupt. What was up with Emily getting a puppy for Christmas? She never mentioned anything about wanting a dog, so that part to me seemed random.

I remember seeing a post on Hallmark Channel’s Twitter feed that Fina Strazza (Emily in “A Christmas Melody”) starred in the Broadway musical “Matilda”. After reading this, I was excited that Hallmark had casted an actress from Broadway to act and sing in one of their movies. Fina is such a talented actress for such a young age! But in this movie, I felt like her singing abilities were watered down. I was really hoping that she would sing either a Christmas ballad (example: O Holy Night) or a duet with Mariah Carey, something that would have positively showcased Fina’s singing abilities.

About the Folger’s product placements, this is not the first time Hallmark Channel has done something like this. They have featured other products from their sponsors in past movies, such as having characters carrying Walmart shopping bags or showing characters eating Jimmy Dean breakfast foods.
