July 4th Patriotic TV Specials

On this July 4th, 2013, we remember our Forefathers
and the hardship of sacrifices they endured for our freedom today,
and all the events that led us to the signing of our Constitution
on July 4, 1776.

Patriotic TV Specials:

*PBS will air "A Capitol Fourth" at 8 PM est. Check local listings for time and repeat airings. This annual Independence Day celebration features various musical patriotic performances and a fireworks display. This year’s performers include: Scotty McCeery (country music artist and “American Idol” winner), music legend Barry Manilow, Candice Glover (Season 12 winner of “American Idol”), Darren Criss (actor and singer from “Glee”), Jackie Evancho (musical prodigy and classical crossover star), Megan Hilty (Broadway and television star from “Smash”), and more... with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Jack Everly.

*On TBN, at 4:30 PM est., you can see a 2 hour presentation of the: "Spiritual Heritage of the U.S. Capitol". Host and Historian David Barton narrates an awe-inspiring tour of the United States Capitol, which brings to light the rich spiritual heritage that pervades the lauded halls of the 200-year-old building. TBN will also have a patriotic concert at 6:30 PM, titled: "Let Freedom Ring", featuring Denver & the Mile High Orchestra. Then, at 12 AM est., you can see "Monumental: In Search of America's National Treasure". In this documentary actor Kirk Cameron provides viewers with a rediscovery of the people and principles that make America a free and prosperous nation, featuring special guests and top musical artists as they share stories of faith and how to keep America's ideals alive.

*The Hallmark Channel will have an encore airing of their new original movie: "Banner 4th of July", starring American Idol alum Brooke White, at 8 PM est. This is a fun little movie that centers around the Banner siblings who return home, mend relationships, and well, I can't give it all away, but with their beloved hometown going bankrupt... can they finally see passed their own disagreements and broken dreams to re-start their lives, re-unite their band, and create a new start... all before the festival and deadline, which happens to be July 4th! Watch and see!

*NBC will air: Macy's 4th Of July Fireworks Spectacular at 8 PM est. NBC celebrates the nation's 237th birthday with a live broadcast of the "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular," featuring all-star performances by Grammy award-winning Tim McGraw,  Country music's reigning sweetheart Taylor Swift, and others. (via NBC) The two-hour show will also air an encore presentation of the second hour of the fireworks special airing at 10:00 p.m. ET. Check your local listings for exact timing.

*TCM will have a day filled with Classic Musical Patriotic Films, including: "Anchors Aweigh" (which features two sailors who are given a three-day leave) , "Yankee Doodle Dandy" (features legendary, flag-waving song-and-dance man George M. Cohan who sings, dances, and composes his way to the heights of Broadway fame during the early years of the 20th Century and tries to find a useful function during the World Wars), and the 1962 Shirley Jones and Robert Preston version of "The Music Man" (a traveling con man arrives in a small Iowa town certain his scam of selling the idea that he can turn the local children into a band will be a success, but he meets his match in the beautiful local music teacher, who sees through his lies).

I hope you all have a wonderful, happy, and safe 4th of July!

God Bless America!!!

Happy Independence Day!!!

  1. I was saddened to learn that CBS cancelled its contract with the Boston Pops so no one outside the local Boston TV market will see the Boston Pops' July 4th spectacular.
