My Apology for Downton Abbey

If you have been following my blog over Christmas, then you may have read the post - saying that we had to postpone our Family Christmas Dinner and Opening of Presents due to the cold/flu. Well, thankfully, everyone in our family is well now, and we were able to have our Family Christmas get together last Sunday evening, January 9th.

That same Sunday evening was the night Downton Abbey premiered on PBS's Masterpiece Theatre; therefore, I was not able to watch that night, and just learned yesterday afternoon of the non-family friendly content in the film. I was disheartened to hear of this news, as I was so looking forward to watching an intelligent historical film with my family, as we all enjoyed the Cranford Series.

I apologize to each and every one of you, especially any of you, who watched this with children. When I originally promoted this movie, I wrote that I was not certain if it would be family-friendly, and unfortunately that was right. It was not. As a Christian, I cannot recommend this movie to anyone and I will remove this film from the Family Schedule, and other pages, but I will keep it in the Movie Review Section to inform others.

Please know, that when a Movie is New to TV, I have not viewed it, yet. Unfortunately, I do not have access to these films to see them before they air. I always recommend that you read the synopsis, check ratings, etc... before watching with your families. Also, I always appreciate you all giving your feedback and all the information you share regarding these films, as well.

I am personally, so tired of the constant immorality portrayed on Modern TV, along with the lack of Parental Authorities and Teenage Discipline. There's nothing Pretty about Little Liars and Parents should know the Secret Lives of their American Teenagers. Sadly, these programs must get good ratings to stay on TV and promote their sinfulness. Our family is definitely not watching these and other programs like them.

I really never dreamed such content would be in this film. Again, I apologize for sharing Downton Abbey. I appreciate all of you who visit my site and it is my desire to share with you what is good and wholesome for your family movie night.

May God bless you and your families as you strive, in this world today, to teach your children what is good and right!

  1. Oh, goodness! I really don't think anyone expected you to apologize for anything. One has to realize that you aren't personally assuring all the movies you blog about are family-friendly. Growing up, my family was strict about what we saw together -- and EVERYTHING was previewed by my parents.

Like many of the other bloggers, it's sad that there is one or two brief scenes that aren't just "PG," but in all other respects "Downton" is marvelous. As with every movie/show/series, everyone must make their own judgements after reading the material. Anyone thinking the 2011 adaptation of "Upstairs, Downstairs" may want to double-check the conent, as it may be questionable to some, also. There are some really good reviews out there.

Since, everyone is talking costume drama, has anyone else seen "Under the Greenwood Tree"? It's really sweet. =)

Most of all, thank you SO much for posting all you do. It's appreciated! =)

  2. You have nothing to apologize for! What you do is great. I really LOVE your blog at Christmas time, and this year I will continue to check in throughout the year. I found you last year (or was it the one before?) and am SO glad I did - I was able to see shows I would have missed without your work on keeping us updated.
I agree totally with what you said about Pretty Little Liars and the Secret Life shows - you are so right.
    Thank-you so much!!

  3. I, unfortunately, watched the first episode online. It was going well--I was really into what happens in the storyline. Well! What I witnessed is unspeakable. The story was, in itself, good. The sinful scenes were unnecessary, and, ruined the whole thing. If they would have left out those scenes, the miniseries would have been wonderful.

    I love Cranford too!!

  5. it's a shame what they did to this drama :(. no one mentions after watching it that is is so disrespectful in many ways, i wish i had read what you said about it before i watched it. it really was a disapointment and i'm so glad someone is out there who will speak the truth about it. it wasnt uplifting, and felt awful. why they would relese something like that bothers me.anyway, thank goodness someone cares, and it's not just myself anf my family who care what people are feeding themsleves through these and others programs where they just show you the lowest behavour.

  6. i posted the comment just now. i forgot to say, i watched it before i saw you posted about it on your blog (i heard about it from a period blog and they seemed excited about it so i watched it too. if you havnt seen the whole thing, you are not missing out. nothing really ever gets resolved, and we get served disrectful behavour the whole way through. )...now i wish i had warned you because i saw it before you had posted about it. maybe we the people who view your blog should , if we know of something not good for familys (or any living being)be helpful in givng you some feedback about it. anyway, thanks alot for your apology! it's really nice to see someone who cares about what they post, even though you did not know about what the content was and was either.
